I am the first in my family to earn a college degree.

Yes

I wanted to earn my degree because:

I graduated from high school in 2008 and decided that college just wasnt for me at the time. I began working a legitimate job at 15 and kept a job or two all throughout high school. Both of my parents were and still are extremely hard workers. However, neither of them ever completed more than 1 year of college due to different life circumstances during that time that didn't allow for them to continue. Being on my own at 19, I got to see what the real world was like. Paying bills and dealing with unexpected expenses made me realize I needed to be able to make more money and get a better job. The best way to do that was to get a degree! I began my college journey at three rivers in 2012 ... 8 years later I can say I finally did it!!

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My mother, Patricia, and my daughter's father, Kyle.

My mother has always been my biggest supporter in everything but especially my college journey. From splitting tuition payments in the beginning when I didn't qualify for financial aid, encouraging me to go back after I had my daughter halfway through, and helping me with her after I did go back. Mom, I could never have done this without you.

Kyle, my daughter's father. We go back to 2009 when we still thought we knew everything (now we KNOW that we dont lol). We have had many ups and downs but throughout all these years, you have been a great supporter to me. You bought me my first laptop when I first started taking classes. You stayed home with the baby everyday sometimes so that I could go back to school and reach my goals. You've taken her on short notice when I needed to study and so much more. Thank you.

I’d like to give a shout out to:

The rest of my family and my friends! You guys all cheered me on and encouraged me every step of the way!

What I like best about my degree program and what it means to me is:

While this degree is not what I set out for, it is an important milestone for me. I began this process 8 years ago and worked multiple jobs the whole time. I had a beautiful baby girl smack in the middle of it all and took a break. I applied to my desired program and got waitlisted. And I came up with a plan B to still get to the profession I wanted. This marks the completion of part 1. Now I'm on to part 2!

What I enjoyed most about my experience at Three Rivers Community College was:

The best part for me was being able to conduct my studies while still working full time and becoming a mom. Flexible schedules and teachers who understand the real world.

I plan to use my degree to:

I plan to continue on to complete a certificate program for diagnostic medical sonography

Now that I have completed college, I’m most looking forward to:

The next step!
