I wanted to earn my degree because:

I wanted to earn my College Degree because I wanted to become better -- better at living, better at learning. I discovered that there is no age limit to pursuing an education, just a desire fueled an action to sign up, an action to sign up fueled a desire to achieve and a desire to achieve lead me to complete the task. There were so many obstacles that attempted to derail me from my goal, however my need to achieve overcame my desire to quit. I am successful because I told myself I am. I learned that self talk is the catapult that drove me to complete this journey. This is one of many degrees I plan to achieve. I want to be better, I am better, I can do anything I tell myself I can. I am amazing.

While earning my degree, my greatest supporters were:

My greatest support came from my family and friends, every semester two weeks in they heard me say, "this is too hard, I am too old for this," two weeks later they heard me say, "if you are convinced I can maybe, just maybe I can." Although it took me 13 years of trying, the last 18 months of determination has resulted in me graduating in 2021. The counselors, professors, my peers and co-workers were also instrumental in me achieving this goal. I especially would like to thank the millennials. They made my transition from in person class to LRON easy and possible with their kind words and instructions. Covid may have been awful for many, however covid showed me that I can be taught differently and I can dream outside the norm. I am so grateful to have made it to this day. Thanks to my believers and in your face to the doubters. We did it, I did it because of all the love, support and encouragement I received.

I’d like to give a shout out to:

All my professors, I came in there as an adult learner who believed it was too hard, but with great insight and direction, I realized that you can teach an old lady new tricks, I learned Spanish, Architecture of the World, Public Speaking, English writing more than a book report, I relearned Algebra, I learned the real History of the World, I learned Principles of Management through texts, I learned that I have an ENFJ-A Protagonist personality type in Industrial & Organizational Psychology, I learned in Abnormal Psychology that a diagnosis is not a life sentence it a starting point for treatment. I learned so much that I am eager and desire to pursue an even higher level of education. I learned most that I love to learn and even more importantly, I love to share what I have learned.

What I like best about my degree program and what it means to me is:

That not only do I have experience, I have initials after my name that will prompt others to acknowledge my knowledge, I am more than a beautiful person, I am an educated person. I feel that completing my degree affords me the feeling of being Proud but humble.

What I enjoyed most about my experience at Three Rivers Community College was:

The atmosphere to learn was prevalent throughout the entire building, the open door policy of my professor, the finance department, the advisors, the library, the computer lab, the tutoring center was vital to my success.

Clubs, volunteer work, organizations that I participated in while at Three Rivers included:

I did not have the opportunity to participate any of these activities, however I saw the results of those who did, they were high spirited, available and a beacon of hope to those who were considering joining. I wish I had the time to invest in such activities, work, school and family did not afford me this opportunity.

I plan to use my degree to:

Pursue my BA in Business Administration, I would like to be a beacon of hope to women who have been long time incarcerated, supporting their journey back into society with the hopes of reducing the rate of recidivism and improving the quality of their life by teaching them the skills required to maneuver in a world that appears to have left them behind.

Now that I have completed college, I’m most looking forward to:

The next journey of self discovery, what other possibilities lie ahead of me, what other dreams that were lost, be discovered. I want to soar.

What I’ll miss most about Three Rivers is:

Nothing yet, I plan to take one more semester in the fall before I begin my BA, it is cheaper to complete here. You are not getting rid of me that easily.
