Frederick-Douglass Knowles, the Poet Laureate of Hartford, Connecticut, will perform at Expressiones as part of the 5th Annual InFusion: Where Literary Traditions Traverse.

Join us for the fifth annual InFusion: Where Literary Traditions Traverse featuring Hartford Poet Laureate Frederick-Douglass Knowles and The Jeff Robinson Jazz Trio. They will read and perform at Expressiones Cultural Center in New London on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. This free event is presented by Three Rivers Community College Community Involvement & Support Committee, Three Rivers College Foundation, and Expressiones Cultural Center.

InFusion is a literary/performing art series that blends the creative works of literature and various artistic mediums, such as the visual and musical arts. The annual reading/performance features a distinguished artist from each genre and opens with a social from 7:00-7:30 p.m. Each artist then performs for half an hour, and the evening concludes with a question and answer period from 8:30-9:00 p.m.

Frederick-Douglass Knowles II is a poet, educator and activist involved in community education. He is the inaugural Poet Laureate for the City of Hartford. His collection of poetry, BlackRoseCity was featured at the 2018 Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP). His works have been featured in the Connecticut River Review; Sinkhole Magazine; Poems on the Road to Peace: A Collective Tribute to Dr. King Volume 2 by Yale University Press; Lefoko magazine, and Fingernails Across the Chalkboard: Poetry and Prose on HIV/AIDS from the Black Diaspora by Third World Press. His poem “Mason Freeman Cuts Jenkins Down,” has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. His sonnet “Sunday School in the 90’s (the way I understood it)” won the 2019 Nutmeg Poetry Award. Knowles is an Associate Professor of English at Three Rivers Community College.

Missouri native, saxophonist, composer, playwright and poet, Jeff started the Jeff Robinson Trio in 1995 as a bridge between music and theatre. The group also includes bassist and composer Blake Newman and drummer Phil Neighbors. The trio accompanies poets at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, MA during a weekly residency that has lasted nearly 20 years. The Jeff Robinson Trio has performed with some of the best poets in the United States of America, including Patricia Smith, Amiri Baraka and Quincy Troupe.

InFusion will be held Friday, May 3 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Expressiones Cultural Center, located at 84 Bank St., New London, Connecticut. It is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Frederick-Douglass Knowles II at 860-222-5524.
