Scholarships

Scholarships are a way for students to help pay for college. Awards range from a few hundred dollars to covering the full amount of tuition.

Adventures in Life Long Learning – Eugene Frank Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student who is 30 years or older, has earned 30 or more credits at TRCC, and has a 3.0 or higher GPA.

Adventures in Life Long Learning – Grace S. Jones Scholarship for Excellence
Awarded to a student who is 30 years or older, has earned 30 or more credits at TRCC, and has a 3.0 or higher GPA.

AFE CHAPTER 122
Provides full tuition and fees and will be awarded to a student enrolled in an engineering discipline who has maintained a 3.0 GPA with demonstrated financial need.

The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) Award
($1,000) Awarded to a student currently enrolled at TRCC who has taken at least student two of the following classes: World Civ I, World Civ II, World Regional Geography, War & Society in World Civilizations, 20th Century Europe, Intro to Philosophy, Ethics, Architecture of the World, World Religions, or Art History I. Alumni Association-Children of Alumni Scholarship
Awarded to a current student at Three Rivers and whose parent(s), grandparent(s), or legal guardian graduated from Mohegan Community College, Thames Valley State Technical College or Three Rivers Community College.

Alumni Association-First Year Scholarship
Applicant must be a first year student currently enrolled at Three Rivers who will have completed a minimum of 6 -30 course credits. Applicant must show characteristics of maturity and clearly indicate that education experience is necessary for advancement.

Alumni Association/Outstanding Graduating Student
Current graduating class member actively involved in community service, college activities, tutoring or other extra-curricular activities.

Ann M. Ahamed Scholarship  
Provides full tuition and fees and is presented to a graduating high school student recommended by a guidance counselor or teacher and has demonstrated financial need. The awardee’s field of study can be any. Award recipient may reapply the following year but must maintain a 2.5-3.0 GPA.

Attorney Bart Sayet Scholarship
(2) $2,000 Awarded to a full-time minority student that has demonstrated financial need, leadership potential with a drive to achieve. The awardee’s field of study can be any. Preference will be given to a Norwich resident.

Capano Family Scholarship
Provides (2) half tuition scholarships and (2) $1,000 – Scholarships awarded to deserving students with demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and a drive to achieve. This candidate must be a current employee of ShopRite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or is a child of or a grandchild of a current employee of these ShopRite stores.

Charles W. Kitchings Memorial Scholarship
Provides full tuition and fees to a nursing student who has shown leadership and has completed Nursing 102 and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Connecticut Indian Council
Value of award varies.  Full or part-time student(s) documented in a state or federally recognized tribe-self, parent(s), grandparent(s) who are unemployed, underemployed or low-income.  Contact www.rhodeislandindiancouncil.org or 860-599-1426 for application.

Dominion Nuclear Connecticut/Millstone Power Station Scholarships
Provides 16 full scholarships for the two year Nuclear Engineering Technology ETAC of ABET-accredited Associate Degree program. Benefits include all tuition and fees, book support, a monthly stipend during the academic year, and a paid 12-week summer internship at their Millstone Nuclear Complex in Waterford,

Deadline for application is February 15, 2017 with full scholarship support to start with the Fall 2017 Academic Semester.

Dominion Nuclear Connecticut/Millstone Power Station Scholarship
Awarded to a part-or full-time student.  Awardee’s field of study can be any.

Dr. Wayne Silver Scholarship
($1,000) – Applicant must have entered Three Rivers at least 10 years after high school or GED completion and has completed 15-30 Three Rivers credits.

Dr. WIlliam DeHomer Waller Scholarship
($1,000) – Applicant must be registered full or part-time student from a diverse, multi-cultural background and have completed at least 15-30 credits at Three Rivers. 

Edward P. Lord Scholarship(s)
Value of Award varies – Awarded to a student(s) enrolled in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical engineering technology.

Eugene and Florence 74′ Frank Scholarship
($500) – Applicant must be a female non-traditional student (35 years or older) who has completed one year at TRCC and has a 3.0 GPA.

Joan Grove and Carolyn Krohn Memorial Scholarship #1
($500) – Awarded to a non-traditional nursing student, one who has successfully completed the 102 course. Student must maintain a 2.7 GPA.

Joan Grove and Carolyn Krohn Memorial Scholarship #2 ($500)
Awarded to a non-traditional nursing student, one who has successfully completed the 201 course. Student must maintain a 2.7 GPA.

John and Mary LaMattina Scholarship Fund
Provides full tuition and fees and will be presented to a TRCC Humanities student who has financial need and has the likelihood to persist despite personal challenges; demonstrated exceptional support for peers and/or College and overall performance in work of the course.  

Liberty Bank Community Service Scholarships
Applicant must show active involvement in the community and have demonstrated financial need. Each scholarship will consist of $2,000 paid in equal installments over the two years the student is at TRCC. To qualify for the second year payment, a student must have taken a full course load and earned a minimum GPA of 2.5 during the first year of college.

One (1) scholarship for a graduate of Montville High School, Norwich Free Academy or Norwich Technical School.

One (1) scholarship for a graduate of Bacon Academy, East Lyme High School, St. Bernard High School, Stonington High School or Waterford High School.

One (1) scholarship for a graduate of Fitch High School, Grasso Technical High School, New London High School or the Science & Technology High School.

One (1) scholarship for a graduate of any of the schools listed above, plus Lyman Memorial High School, Lyme/OldLyme High School, or RHAM High School.

The LaMattina Foundation Scholarship
Provides full tuition and fees and will be presented to a full time returning student, 25 years or older enrolled in a Liberal Arts & Science or Business Program at TRCC with a 2.7 GPA.

Ledyard Rotary Scholarship
($1,000)- Awarded to a deserving student.  The awardee’s field of study can be any.

Luke J. Malek Scholarship
(Value of award varies) – Awarded to a current graduate of Griswold High School enrolled in a STEM discipline.

Mark Ballestrini Memorial Scholarship
($1,200) -Awarded to a part- or full-time student. Awardee’s field of study can be any. Applicant must show involvement in the community through volunteer and community service work with a positive attitude and drive to achieve.

Matthew P. Hightower Memorial Award
($1,000) APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 15, 2017 Presented to the student with a GPA of 3.7 or greater, with at least 20 credits taken at TRCC, whose focus is in the area of public accounting with a desire to become a certified public accountant. Preference will be given to a non-traditional student.

New London County Medical Association
(Value of award varies) – Full-or part-time student who demonstrates academic achievement and financial need.  Awardee’s field of study can be any.

Norwich Public Utilities Scholarship
Provides full tuition and fees for a full-time entering or continuing TRCC student who is a Norwich resident and has made contributions to the community either through volunteer work or through extracurricular activities at his/her high school. The student must be an Engineering or Business major preferably with interest in economic development or energy efficiency.

Ralph & Lillian Pelliccio Memorial Scholarship
($500) Awarded to a member of the current graduating class who has demonstrated excellence in either accounting or business administration and will be transferring to a four year college on a full-time basis in business or accounting field.

Reverend David L. Cannon Scholarship
Provides full tuition and fees (excluding books). Applicant must enroll at Three Rivers with a minimum of (9) nine credits in one of the many liberal arts, science or general studies programs. This scholarship is renewable each semester for up to (2) two years provided the student maintains a 3.25 GPA.

Robert N. Rue Scholarship
(Value of award varies each year) Awarded to a nursing student who demonstrates the ability to make appropriate clinical judgments in providing quality, holistic patient care. The recipient will evidence a life-long desire to become a nurse with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

ShopRite/Gloria Cohen Memorial Scholarship
($500)  This candidate must be a current employee of ShopRite of Norwich, New London, or Clinton, or is a child of or a grandchild of a current employee of these ShopRite stores. Applicant must have demonstrated financial need with a positive attitude and drive to achieve.

TRC Foundation Scholarship(s)
Full and partial scholarship available for students who have completed a minimum of (9) credits at TRCC.  The awardee’s field of study can be any.

TRC Foundation Scholarship
($1,000) Applicant must be enrolled at Three Rivers and have a GPA of 3.0. Awardee’s field of study can be any.

Veronica W. Cronin Nursing Scholarship
Provides full tuition and fees to a nursing student who has shown leadership and has completed Nursing 101 and maintains a 3.0 GPA.

VNA Nightingale Scholarship
($1,200) Awarded to a TRCC (full or part-time) nursing student who resides in Eastern Connecticut and demonstrates academic achievement and financial need.

Dominion Nuclear Connecticut Millstone Power Station Engineering Technology Scholarships

This full scholarship is for students in Three Rivers’ Nuclear Engineering Technology degree program which has been cited as “the best nuclear technology program in the country” by former Nuclear Regulatory Commissioner William D. Magwood, IV. It leads to a career as a technician for the commercial nuclear power industry and the health physics field, or to continued bachelor degree studies. Learn more about the scholarship. 

Departmental Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded by individual Three Rivers departments. The criteria for each scholarship is listed below in order to inspire academic excellence. You will be notified by the department if you are selected to receive the award.

English Department

The English department is offering 3 opportunities to win CASH PRIZES for your work. Submit an essay or a speech to the English Department Writing/Speech Competition. Deadline is May 30, 2016.

Writing Awards

Alumni Composition Award
This award is designed to recognize exceptional writing in English 101 and 200. Essays submitted may be research essays, analytical or evaluative essays, arguments, or personal essays. All submissions must have been written in fulfillment of an assignment in English 101 or 200.

Alumni Literature Award
This award is designed to recognize exceptional writing in an English 102 or 200 level literature course. Essays submitted in this category should offer an original analysis of one or more works of literature, with or without the benefit of outside research. All submissions must have been written in fulfillment of an assignment in English 102 or a 200 level literature course.

The Speech Contest
The Speech Contest recognizes the exceptional work from students in COM K173. Students are nominated by their instructors for an exemplary persuasive speech that was given in class for a grade. Nominees will be invited to present their speeches before an assembled audience and a panel of faculty judges at the Speech Contest held at the end of the Spring 2016 semester.

Humanities Department

Graphic Design

Graphic Design Scholarship (Full-Time Student)
Award goes to one full-time returning student majoring in graphic design. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipient is determined by portfolio review.

Graphic Design Scholarship (Part-Time Student)
Award goes to one part-time returning student majoring in graphic design. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipient is determined by portfolio review.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts Achievement Award
Award goes to the student with the highest GPA who is graduating from the Visual Fine Arts Program in the given academic year.

Flora Lee O’Neil Award for Excellent in Painting
Award goes to the student with the highest final grade in a painting class in the given academic year.

Humanities

Humanistic Studies Award
Award goes to a graduating student who has completed a minimum of 5 humanities courses, with at least one in 3 different disciplines (anthropology, fine arts, graphic design, history, foreign language, literature, music, philosophy, women’s studies). Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Given to the student with the highest GPA in the humanities courses selected for consideration.

Humanistic Studies Book Scholarship
Award goes to a returning student who has completed a minimum of 4 humanities courses, with at least one in 3 different disciplines (anthropology, fine arts, graphic design, history, foreign language, literature, music, philosophy, women’s studies). Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Given to the student with the highest GPA in the humanities courses selected for consideration.

Science Department

Science

Science Department Memorial Award (A tribute to our parents)
Award goes to a student majoring in a program within the departments of Science, Liberal Arts and Science, or General Studies that has completed a minimum of 4 biological and/or physical science courses with labs (16 credits minimum). Must have a minimum GPA of 3.2. Coursework must have been completed at Three Rivers.

Science Department Scholarship
Award goes to a student majoring in a program within the departments of Liberal Arts and Science or General Studies that has completed a minimum of 4 lab science courses (16 credits minimum) with coursework in both life sciences and the physical sciences. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 overall and in the individual coursework. Coursework must have been completed at Three Rivers.

William (KirK) Kirkpatrick Award
Award goes to a student who has completed Anatomy & Physiology I & II with a grade of A- or higher in both courses. Students must have completed a minimum of 20 credits at Three Rivers with an overall GPA of 2.7 or higher.

You are invited to nominate yourself for either of the following awards. If you mee the minimum criteria and want to be considered, simply speak with any Social Sciences faculty member.

Social Science

Social Science Scholarship
Award goes to a student who has completed at least four Social Science courses by the end of the spring 2015 semester, with at least 3 in a social science discipline (criminal justice, economics, early childhood education, teaching pathways, human services, geography, international studies, library science, political science, psychology, and sociology). The Social Science courses must be in more than one discipline. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Donald Crouch Senior Memorial Award
Award goes to a Criminal justice student who displays unusual persistence and overcomes hardships during the pursuit of a Criminal Justice degree.

Doug Feeney Scholarship
Award goes to a student who has completed at least four Social Science courses by the end of the spring 2015 semester, with at least 3 in a social science discipline (criminal justice, economics, early childhood education, teaching pathways, human services, geography, international studies, library science, political science, psychology, and sociology). The Social Science courses must be in more than one discipline. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Student Programs

Student Leader Award
Award goes to a currently enrolled student actively involved in student life. Priority goes to students serving as executive board members of an active student organization.

Dr. Howell Aarons Tutoring Scholarship
Awarded to a student T.A.S.C. tutor who holds a 3.0 GPA or higher and has been a T.A.S.C. tutor for one year (current semester counts toward eligibility). Sponsored by the TRCC Alumni Association.

Groton Rotary Club Scholarship
Applicant must live or work in the Groton area and be beginning or continuing their college education. Must be enrolled in six credit hours in Fall 2016. The Groton Foundation of the Groton Rotary Club will choose the winner.

Mary Kao Library Technology Alumni Scholarship Award
Awarded to a student who is currently enrolled in the Three Rivers Library Technology certificate program and is planning to take at least one Library Technology course in the 2016-2017 school year.

Three Rivers Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Award
Awarded to a student who has completed a minimum of 18 credits at Three Rivers and has a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Preference will be given to a Phi Theta Kappa Member.

Rose City BNI Scholarship
Student must be a full-time TRCC student who has shown academic excellence and determination by obtaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Student must also demonstrate community or campus service.

Southeastern CT Women’s Network Scholarship
Awarded to a female student who has completed a minimum of 30 credits at Three Rivers, has a 3.0 GPA or higher and is continuing her course work at TRCC.

Student Government Honor Scholarship
Awarded to a student with a 3.8 GPA or higher and has completed 20 or more credits at Three Rivers.

Student Government Outstanding School Involvement Scholarship
Awarded to a student with a GPA of 2.3 or higher, completed 20 or more credits at Three Rivers and is an active member in a Three Rivers’ student organization during the current academic year.
